Carpathia FC Wins Home Opener

It was an exciting day in Macomb Township on Saturday May 21st, 2016 as Carpathia FC hosted Aurora Borealis in their first home game of the season at L’Anse Creuse High School- North. After coming off a 4-1 loss to defending champs RWB Adria and a good week of practice, Carpathia was ready for the challenge that lied ahead of them. “Aurora played very tactical and kept great shape threw out the game” stated Head Coach Bruce Wilden. “The team was well organized and you could tell that they were well coached”. Both teams would have their chances in the first half, with Carpathia’s goalkeeper Scott Messer making three vital saves early on to keep the score at 0-0.  a vs cThe second half started with Aurora pressing. Seven minutes into the second half, the ball would fall to Aurora’s number 7, Jesse Ortiz where he would volley the ball top corner and put Aurora up 1-0. This would wake up the home side. Carpathia began pressing and controlling the ball. Chances were made but now it was time for Aurora’s goalie to make some vital saves. The 62′ minute was when the game would open up for Carpathia FC when Colin Helmrich received a ball down the left side from Wade Allan. He would dribble into the box before calmly bending the ball with his right foot just inside the right post and leveling the game at 1-1. Aurora’s goalie would make another vital save on Carpathia’s John Deleon minutes after the goal and keeping the game tied. Minutes left to play in the game and Carpathia still pushing, they would find their winner. Ryan Williams played a ball to Dane Laird who slotted the ball passed Auroras goalie and giving Carpathia the 2-1 lead. Carpathia would hold onto the lead and would earn the home side its first 3 points of the season and first win at home. “I’m proud of the boys and of how hard they worked after being 1-0 down. They deserved to win the game and fought hard and at the end it was enough” Bruce Wilden.

Carpathia FC will be off this weekend as they travel to Chicago to participate in the National Donauschwaben tournament.

They will resume PLA action hosting Oakland County FC on June 3rd, 7:30 PM at L’Anse Creuse High School- Northoakland
