Toledo Shuts Down Carpathia

It was a hot summer night on Saturday, July 9 when Carpathia FC took on Toledo United FC in Toledo, OH. It was 7:30pm and humid when the game began.

The first shot of the night for Carpathia FC came in the 8th minute and went just wide of the net. Just 3 minutes later, Helmrich found Williams but Toledo’s goalkeeper was just narrowly able to save the shot by Williams. Sadly, at the 18th minute, an accidental trip in Carpathia’s own penalty area gave Toledo a penalty kick. Toledo was able to convert the penalty kick and was up 1-0. Following this goal, the game was back and forth. Toledo would break up the Carpathia attack and then Carpathia would break up the Toledo attack. In the final minute of the first half, it looked like Toledo might have a second goal. Fortunately, Messer and Giorgi worked together to clear the ball off the line and make sure that the half ended with just 1 goal for Toledo. The first half showed that it could be either team’s game.

The second half began and Toledo came out hard, but Messer continued to make great saves. Unfortunately, it seemed like the second half was a repeat of the first when Toledo was handed another penalty kick in the 57th minute. The PK was given by the referees because of a tangle of feet in the box that result in a Toledo player falling to the ground. This left Toledo leading 2-0 against Carpathia with both goals coming off PKs. Just over 10 minutes later, Toledo scored their 3rd goal off an unlucky Carpathia clearance that went to the feet of a Toledo player. Following this goal, Helmrich and Williams had another good passing combination in front of the Toledo net but the shot by Williams sailed just inches over the crossbar. Carpathia had a few more good chances but were unable to put the ball in the back of the net. While Carpathia FC fought until the end, they lost to Toledo United FC 3-0.

Carpathia FC has a break before they are back in action on Saturday, July 23 at 7:30pm at Oakland County FC. The last meeting between Oakland and Carpathia ended with a Carpathia 1-0 win.
